Hosting basic knowledge Choosing a suitable host needs to be well thought out. What services do you need? In which country should the server be located? If you only want to host one website, a shared web space package is sufficient. With all packages (web space or server) you should make sure that they are equipped with SSD hard drives. The operating system of VPS or root servers is mostly Linux. If you decide to have your own server, knowledge of Linux is a prerequisite.

You can get your own root server from around €100 per month. Additional DDoS protection is available for all packages. This additional service usually costs a little more. However, this measure is very useful to protect yourself from unwanted hacker attacks and spammers.

Instant account activation is advisable. Payment is made with Paypal, Bitcoin or another electronic payment provider. The booked package is then available within a few minutes. So there is no waiting time. You can also remain anonymous to the hoster. Some hosters offer to remain completely anonymous.

In principle, the price depends heavily on the requirements and wishes. How much storage space do you need? How high should the data volume be? Which country do you want to host in? There are many aspects to consider before booking a hosting package. For smaller projects it can be enough to invest a few euros per month. If you run larger projects and need a server, this can cost several hundred euros per month.
